THREE PEASANTS MAKING MUSIC
Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (K.P.M.)
Drei musizierende Bauern (Three peasants making music)
porcelain
11 1/2 by 13 3/8 in.
After the original painting by David Teniers the Younger (Flemish, 1610-1690).
Impressed scepter, ‘KPM’ monogram mark, and ‘H’ cypher (on reverse).
An old tag on the back reads, ‘David Teniers / The Violin Players copied by Schmidt / The Original belongs to the Gallery / of Count Schönborn at Pommersfelden’.
The original painting is now at the Schleißheim State Gallery in Germany. Their records show an accession year or 1799, which would date the information on the tag to the 18th century, if correct.
